Friend Recommended a Real Estate Agent? How Second Opinion Works
A friend's tip is a starting point, not a contract. How Second Opinion gives you one calm alternative introduction without a lead-mill free-for-all.

Key takeaways
- A friend's tip is a starting point, not a hire. Loyalty is healthy. Treating the tip as automatic is optional.
- Second Opinion gives you one alternative introduction to set beside the name you already have, not a blast to several offices (Second Opinion).
- A member of our team will review your Match Profile before anyone is introduced. Same short profile as Find My Agent (How It Works).
- You decide. Asking for a second opinion does not obligate you to hire anyone, and it is not a campaign to tear down your friend's agent (Disclosure).
- No tip yet? Use Find My Agent instead. Already under an exclusive agreement? Review that paperwork first.

Why friend referrals feel sticky
Short answer: friend tips carry social weight. That weight is real, and it is not the same thing as fit for your deal.
A friend texts a name. You feel grateful, and a little stuck. Saying yes feels loyal. Interviewing someone else can feel rude. Neither extreme is required.
Your friend may have had a great closing. They may also have bought in a different price band, a different county, or years ago under different market conditions. Loyalty to a friend is healthy. Treating their tip as an automatic hire is optional.
Guilt shows up because real estate feels personal. The fix is process, not drama: thank them, keep comparing quietly, and choose the real estate agent whose skills match your transaction.
What a tip is good for, and what it does not prove
Short answer: a tip is a warm starting point and a name you can interview. It is not proof that you should skip comparing.
A tip is good for:
- A warm starting point and a known communication style (as your friend experienced it)
- Evidence that someone can close a transaction somewhere nearby
- A name you can interview with real questions
A tip does not prove:
- Fit for your Jeffersonville condo search if they bought a New Albany ranch
- Fit for an inherited as-is sale if they did a polished move-up listing
- That you must skip comparing alternatives
Interview the tip like any other candidate. Charm and a shared barbecue are not a comparative market analysis.
A respectful way to keep comparing
Short answer: you do not owe a live play-by-play. Short, kind scripts are enough.
High-level scripts:
- To your friend: "Thank you. I'm talking with a couple of people so I hire with clear eyes."
- To the referred agent: "I'm interviewing for fit and will decide soon. I appreciate the introduction from [Friend]."
- To yourself: Comparing is normal professional diligence, not betrayal.
If your friend presses, stay kind and brief. You are allowed to hire for your transaction.
What to tell the referred agent (without drama)
A simple frame:
"I'm grateful [Friend] connected us. I'm also doing a short comparison so I hire with clear eyes. I'll decide by [date]. Meanwhile, I'd love to hear how you'd approach [my buy or sell situation in this city]."
That script does three jobs: it honors the referral, it sets a decision window, and it invites substance over small talk. If the referred agent responds with respect, that is data. If they respond with guilt or urgency theater, that is also data.
Keep your friend's updates light. You do not need to livestream every interview. Most friendships survive a thoughtful hire, especially when you thank them either way.
What Second Opinion is
Short answer: Second Opinion is Agent Intro's path for people who already have a name and want one alternative introduction to compare.
Agent Intro is a free service of Aire Realty, LLC, an Indiana-licensed brokerage. We introduce home buyers and sellers in Southern Indiana and Greater Louisville to one of our vetted local real estate agents.
Second Opinion is not a campaign to tear down your friend's agent. It is not five competing calls. It is a structured way to get another vetted local option with a short why, so your decision is informed.
| Path | Good fit when | What you get | Start |
|---|---|---|---|
| Second Opinion | You already have a name | One alternative to compare | /second-opinion |
| Find My Agent | No strong tip yet | One introduction from scratch | /match |
Process context: How It Works. Selection mindset: How We Choose Agents.
Ready for that alternative name? Start Second Opinion.
What you receive
Short answer: a member of our team will review your Match Profile, then, when fit is clear, you get one alternative introduction with enough rationale to understand why.
Expect:
- A member of our team will review your Match Profile, including buy, sell, or both, geography, timeline, and what the tip may miss
- One alternative introduction to one of our vetted local real estate agents when fit is clear
- Enough rationale to understand why this alternative for your stated goals
You then compare tip versus introduction on substance: local knowledge, communication, plan, and comfort with your situation. Sellers can use Second Opinion too. Friend tips are not buyer-only.
The introduction is free for you. Submitting a Match Profile does not by itself create a buyer or seller agency relationship. Brokerage services start only under a separate agreement you choose to sign (Disclosure).
One caution from our Disclosure: if you have already signed an exclusive buyer or listing agreement, review it before you ask for a second opinion. We will not advise you to breach an agreement, and we may pause an introduction until that is clear.
When Second Opinion beats Find My Agent
Short answer: choose Second Opinion when a name already sits in your notes and the social weight is real.
Choose Second Opinion when a name already sits in your notes app and the social weight is real. Choose Find My Agent when you have no tip, or the tip is so mismatched (wrong county, wrong price band, wrong life-event experience) that you effectively need a clean slate.
You can also use Second Opinion first, then Find My Agent later if both options miss. Agent Intro will not punish you for being careful.

How to decide between tip and introduction
Short answer: hire the stronger fit on substance. Sometimes that is the friend's tip. Sometimes it is the Second Opinion introduction.
Use a simple scorecard:
- Who asks better questions about your property type and timeline?
- Who explains agreements and compensation clearly?
- Who demonstrates relevant local work without inventing confidential details or promised outcomes?
- Who matches how you want to communicate?
- Who makes you feel informed rather than rushed?
Either outcome is a win if the choice was conscious.
If neither fits, you can pause or explore Find My Agent as a clean-slate path via /match.

What Agent Intro will not do
Short answer: no lead auction, no agent-bashing, no pressure to hire the alternative.
- Auction your phone number to a pile of offices
- Coach you to trash your friend's agent
- Pretend every tip is wrong
- Pressure you to hire the alternative
- Invent fee claims (see /disclosure)

FAQs
Is it rude to interview someone else after a friend referral?
No. Interviewing for fit is normal. Thank your friend, keep details light, and hire the real estate agent who fits your transaction.
What is Second Opinion (vs Find My Agent)?
Second Opinion is for tip-holders who want one alternative introduction. Find My Agent / Match Profile is the clean-slate path when you do not already have a strong name. In both cases, a member of our team will review your Match Profile.
Will Agent Intro trash my friend's agent?
No. The point is a respectful alternative introduction and a clear comparison, not agent-bashing.
Do I have to tell my friend I'm getting a second name?
You are not required to narrate every step. A short thank-you and "I'm interviewing for fit" is enough for most friendships.
What if the second introduction is still not the right fit?
You can decline, pause, or explore other paths such as Find My Agent. You are not obligated to hire anyone from an introduction.
Can sellers use Second Opinion too?
Yes. Friend tips for listings are common. Sellers can request one alternative introduction the same way.
